Dear all Checkers/Draughts enthusiast, I am happy to bring to your attention the following communications between Event Organizer, Conrad Thomas of Miami Florida and IDF President, Vladimir Langin concerning the idea of holding an Open Draughts – 64 Tournament in Miami Florida:
Open Draughts – 64 Tournament in Miami (From IDF President, Vladimir Langin)
I am the president of the International Draughts Federation (IDF). We develop draughts all over the world on the classic 64-cell board. The most important types of them are Russian, Pool and Brazilian.
Recently we were in Barbados, where for the second year we held draughts-64 tournaments in Russian, Brazilian and Pool draughts. We talk a lot with Russian speaking players. In particular, with Vadim Lapin, who now lives with his wife near Miami. He said that in Miami there is a group of Pool checkers players and you are the organizer of various Pool checkers tournaments.
We have the idea of holding an open draughts-64 tournament in Miami (Miami-Open 2020). We could come with a small delegation from Russia including Lapin with his wife (Ukraine) plus some players from Europe. In general, together with you we could organize a good tournament, get to know and invite strong American players from other regions. We would like to hold 2 tournaments – one in Pool and one in Russian with the Pool Tournament to be held on April 4th, 2020 (Saturday) and the Russian tournament on April 5th, 2020 (Sunday). Each tournament will start at 10:00AM and end at 7:00PM. The location of the tournaments to be determined.
It is important that all players play in both tournaments (Russian and Pool). You can invite the famous Mr. Barnett. We would be glad to meet him. Because of the similarity in Pool and Russian draughts there should be no problems for all players to play in both tournaments.
Also, as we had discussed with Mr. Lapin, you will need you to provide the room for the tournament, the players on your part and hopefully a prize pool of $600.00 – $1000.00. It is advisable to allocate 2 cups (Trophies) for the tournament winners. We will reserve hotel rooms for our players somewhere nearby within walking distance. This tournament would be a good start to cooperation.
